EMBER – Exhibition by Julia Chochola at Padure Manor

Julia Chochola is a Czech-Latvian artist living and working between Prague and Riga. Her work emerges from an unusual dialogue of tactile materials – steel and gold leaf, animal skulls and deer antlers, feathers, 24-carat gold. Her pieces speak of contrasts: high and low, life and death, the rare and the everyday. Before her artistic career, Julia was a tattoo artist in Prague, where her abstract tattooing style developed – an energy still felt in her painting today.

If you see lions everywhere in the exhibition – that is no coincidence. The lion is both the symbol of Courland and the Czech Republic – two lands, two heritages in one space.
