December Peace and Life at Padure Manor

December at Padure Manor always arrives differently. It is quieter, more introspective, yet at the same time, remarkably full. This month will remain in our memories for its warm conversations, creative sparks, and the international spirit that filled the manor’s ancient walls.

International Friendship and the Joy of Work

We began this winter together with two volunteers from Israel. Their presence brought a completely different dynamic to the manor—while they helped with various technical tasks, they also created beautiful video stories about Padure. Such workaway collaborations are of immense value to us. It’s not just about the work done; it’s an opportunity to see our manor, Latvia, and rural life through different eyes. It reminds us again and again how different we are in our cultures, yet how similar in our dreams and love for work.

Spaces that Inspire Creativity

In December, the manor also became the home for an especially elegant photoshoot. A lady, together with a professional photographer, conjured a whole story within the manor rooms. Each outfit was chosen for a specific room, its light, and its mood. Interestingly, it is during these photoshoots that we see it best—time flows differently at Padure Manor. An hour is not enough to capture everything. Every corner, every shadow of light on the wall reveals new details that we might not even notice at first.

Holidays Without Haste

Even though winter reigned outside, interest in the manor’s history did not cool down—tours continued, and guests came to see our interiors even in the December chill.

At the very heart of the season, the manor transformed into a true home. During both the winter solstice and traditional Christmas, a sense of peace and togetherness prevailed. We especially remember the large family of 20 people who celebrated with us—without the city rush, with long conversations and shared meals. But one of the warmest days was when we baked gingerbread together with our fellow “manor-folk.” Our special Padure Manor molds and the scent of gingerbread filling the halls created that true feeling—the manor literally comes to life in these moments.

A New Beginning in Historical Peace

We concluded the year with a family from Liepāja, who chose to trade the noise of New Year’s fireworks for the silence and spaciousness of the manor. Such moments are the best reminder that a manor is not just an architectural monument. It is an experience that we gift to ourselves and others.
